Meet John - Discovering his dreams in Customer Service

Meet John - Discovering his dreams in Customer Service

October 03, 2023

Say hello to John!

He’s been growing his confidence in speaking with people and completing customer orders for the past thirteen years as part of the NDIS Employee team at Mobo Group’s South Coast Firewood. Recently, John has discovered a new dream he wants to achieve in employment, and we’ve been supporting him to grow and achieve that dream, even if it means we’ll eventually have to say goodbye. Mobo is proud to be able to offer many pathways of employment for people, not only within our own businesses but also through our business and community networks.

When John joined Mobo back in 2010, he was very shy and had a hard time speaking to other people, but over time, his confidence built so high that he grew to love helping any customers who visited our site and has since had the courage to join in on many sporting and social activities both in and outside of the workplace!

Last year, John took up a barista course at TAFE to help him to grow his coffee making skills, we not only encouraged his attendance and celebrated his new certification, but also adjusted his working hours to suit his studying ventures. Now, John is testing the waters in the hospitality industry by participating in temporary work experience at Planted Coffee House – a Victor Harbor hidden gem only a five-minute drive away from South Coast Firewood!

We reached out to Nick at Planted, he had this to say about the business and John’s role there, “At Planted Coffee House we supply high quality coffee to the early starters, those on the move, and those who are catching up with friends. With a purpose to be planted in the community, we love to be able to serve our community, employ local staff and help those in need.

Recently, we’ve had John join us for some work experience where he has been able to expand his skills in customer experience in a fast-paced environment. John always goes above and beyond when taking orders and has great initiative to ensure the team is at its best. “

There’s still plenty of skills John can learn to help him succeed in the customer service world, so we’re helping him to cross items off that list. Mobo will be supporting John to learn about money handling and operating the cash register at South Coast Firewood. All to help him further build confidence in the skills that’ll help him succeed, and to help ease his transition into a new employment opportunity when the time comes.

With the confidence and courage that John has developed over his many years of engaging in meaningful employment at Mobo Group, he is now stretching his wings further than he thought he could and is preparing to fly into a new adventure in Open Employment.

Though it’ll be bittersweet when John eventually ends his employment with us at South Coast Firewood, we’re incredibly proud to support John knowing that he is making his next leap to accomplish his dreams and growing to be the best he can be!

We hope you’ll all join us in wishing John the very best as he works towards his new dream in meaningful employment, and that you’ll drop in to support John practicing his customer service skills at Planted Coffee House on Friday mornings!
